"I RATE IT ZERO!" 2010-05-31
By Lady (NY)
Reply to the comment posted by J.Sanders. This comment is TOTALLY TRUE AND HONEST. I had exactly the same experience, and when I bought mine from Chef Central it was on promotion for $45. I was SO excited to make ice cream. I made Cookies and Cream, Cottage Cheese Ice Cream and Rose (Yes, Rose essence) ice cream. I have incredible gourmet recipes. But the results were appaling. I had exactly the same experience. Even more. My husband decided to put the whole machine in the freezer (I know a brand like that) passing the wire thru the door. I turned on my spare freezer just for that. And you know what? Mushy ice cream! It took me the whole day after trying many ways, like refreezing the bowls. At the end of the day I was frustrated and disappointed, so I washed and packed everything for return. We learn by mistakes. WON'T BUY anything cheap that is made in China EVER AGAIN!!! SHAME ON YOU CUISINART!!! Regardless of the thousands of positive reviews here, they are fake. Unless they don't know for sure what a good ice cream looks like or they are ALL from people of CUISINART. They surely have so many computers, they can write loads of good reviews creating new accounts. People, always read the negative reviews. If they are not too bad, then buy it. Otherwise keep away. This is my advice. I write honestly and am not doing a campaign against Cuisinart, just tired of being mislead by companies. Time to expose then. For a better USA!

"I love it!" 2010-05-14
By bekki (NC)
I love this machine! It's perfect because of the flexibility; if I want a lot of one flavor I can use both bowls for the same kind or I can easily make two different kinds. Since I don't do dairy products this has saved me so much money and hassle in avoiding the dreaded $6+ a pint non-dairy ice creams. My only complaint about this ice cream maker is not having gotten it sooner!

"Great!" 2010-03-24
By Ann (Idaho)
The Cuisinart ICE-40 icemaker is GREAT! I've made three batches of ice cream so far, and every one has turned out perfect. I control how hard the ice cream gets because I can look down into the container as it is turning, and can tell when it's getting to a good consistency. I've even played with the recipes a little by using whole milk instead of heavy whipping cream in the vanilla, and it works just as well! I don't miss the rock-salt-and-ice mess I always got from my old electric ice cream maker.

Freezes fast, quiet operation, a good product.I am glad we bought the dual container one instead of the single chamber.

"Great Product... Thanks Cuisinart" 2010-01-10
By J. DINATALIE (Wethersfield, CT)
I was a little skeptical when this came home because we have used the salt style machines with not great success. With in 20 minutes we had some tasty strawberry and mint chocolate chip ice cream. It's great you can make 2 different flavors at once. We cut the recommended sugar in half to make it even healthier, and the recipe was still great! Simple, easy to find ingredients makes this easy for anybody. Also tweaking the receipes a little to your individual taste has been fun too. When it was finished it wasn't liquid like at all, but a nice consistency. This is an amazing product and I highly recommend it. Kids love helping, and clean up is super easy. Cant wait to try some summer time drinks.

"For what its worth" 2010-06-08
By J. Gilbert (Florida, USA)
If you can find this in an actual store, buy it there... I tried ordering it from her. When trying it out the first time, I discovered the wooden bucket was cracked down almost the entire way. I went through the manufacturer's website and emailed them. Later that day, I got a response, and had to provide my proof of purchase through Amazon to get a replacement...Yesterday the replacement bucket showed up, also cracked, but not quite as bad. I can probably tighten the bands to get a better seal, but I shouldn't have to for almost $70.But for making about a gallon of homemade icecream, its fine.

"Churn up some good memories" 2010-05-28
By DLAllen (The American West)
I love sending these ice cream makers for wedding presents! They are often the couple's favorite gift - and they are NEVER returned! What is unique about this model is the manual crack option (or electric crank). Also the wooden bucket, I feel, freezes the ice cream more quickly and solidly than plastic versions. It took a little investigation and shopping to locate this model at such a wonderful price!

"Terrible quality!!!" 2010-03-05
By M. Sonntag
The ice cream maker motor burned out after 5 minutes into our first batch of ice cream. After following the instructions and putting water in the bucket for several hours, the wooden bucket developed a split and so it leaks water during the process. So, in the end we got a ice cream maker with a leaking bucket that only works with a hand crank. Terrible purchase and very disappointing.

"Devil in the Details" 2009-12-06
By Daysha Hughes
i needed this ice cream maker for thanksgiving. got it, took it out the box, inspected, and assembled it. it looked great and everything seemed to be just fine. the instructions advise that you soak the bucket for a couple of hours prior to the first use. on thanksgiving day i soaked the bucket and came back moments later and noticed the water level was declining more rapidly than expected. i refilled and tried again. the same thing happened. not a little water was coming out, but a steady, constant stream of significant amount. i could literally see the water going down. i look closer to see where the water is coming from, and i see a crack in the wood on both sides. i can actually move the pieces. well, we figured we would hand crank the ice cream in in a tub to collect the water. after about an hour or more of cranking the machine, it was still easy to turn/crank the handle. what is supposed to happen is as the ice cream freezes, it is supposed to be more difficult to turn/crank. we hand cranked for a little longer with little progress. That is when we used the automatic, electric component. well. after a while, it did finally freeze, but not as hard/firm as it should have if done by hand.i had used the product so i couldnt return it.

pros: pretty
cons: wood barrel cracks going on both sides of the barrel. this was not visible to the naked eye until it was time to soak the bucket. water left the bucket constantly

did not freeze when using manual hand crank

when using the automatic/electric component, it took a long time, but finally froze. however the consistency/firmness could have been much better and firmer.

took way to long

"Nice bowl, but didn't fit my ice cream maker" 2009-08-24
By M. Smith (Knoxville, TN)
I purchased the Cuisinart 1 1/2 quart soft serve ice cream/yogurt maker from Amazon several weeks ago. Enjoyed it so much I ordered an additional freezer bowl- also for a Cuisinart 1 1/2 quart soft serve ice cream maker. Unfortunately I threw away the box it came in before I tried out the new bowl. To my surprise (and dismay) it didn't fit. Without the packaging, it was unreturnable (my fault). Who would have thought Cuisinart would make two different 1 1/2 quart soft serve ice cream makers?! Valuable lesson learned.

Great to have a second bowl ready when making a big batch of Ice Cream.

"Extra bowl is almost required" 2009-07-06
By Coolkat (Philly, PA USA)
I read other people's recommendation to get another freezer bowl, so I did - what a life saver! thank you all!! xxoo!!! They are not kidding - if you are expecting more than 3 or 4 people, the extra bowl is a must. Also, for those of you toying with ice cream mixes - Dean Jacobs all the way. It is by far the best. You can really taste the quality - just like dairy queen's it is that smooth. Recipe calls for 1 cp heavy cream and 1 cp whole milk. Use 1.5 or 2 cps heavy cream with the 1 cp whole milk - maybe thats what makes it so smooth?

"Great with a little practice" 2010-04-04
By K. Smith (Silver Spring, MD)
I was a little skeptical about buying this but when I found a 30% off coupon, I figured I'd go ahead and splurge.

The Good: Love the color. You can get really creative with what you make in it - you can adjust the amount of sugar, use organic ingredients, and make whatever wild concoctions you can dream up. It's easy to set up and clean and you can dismantle it and store it in the box if counterspace is limited. The final product really is ready in 20-30 minutes and kids will enjoy watching the ice cream freeze right before their eyes. This is great to pull out at a party - be sure to purchase a couple of spare bowls to freeze since it doesn't hold that much.

The Not So Good: The first time I used this I let it go for too long and it wouldn't dispense in a stream - more like large ice cream drops. Then when it dispensed into the bowl it practically melted on contact with the bowl. The mixing blade holds onto a lot of ice cream when you lift the lid. You don't have too much time to clear it off before it starts dripping/melting everywhere. If the bowl is super cold, the ice cream sticks to the sides of the bowl and it can be difficult to get it all out - you'll need a stiff spoon but not a metal spoon. I can't find spare freezer bowls in pink - I had to buy a couple of white ones so I could use this during parties. They are pretty large so you need a fair amount of space in the freezer.

Recommendations: Be patient and don't expect the first couple of runs to be perfect. It takes practice to get the hang of how long you need to run it and it will vary based on what you make in it. Make sure your ingredients are very cold before putting them into the frozen bowl - the liquid that hits the bowl first will freeze on contact. I actually mix my ingredients and put them into the freezer for about a half hour, take it out of the freezer, mix well and then add them into the ice cream machine. I also dispense into chilled bowls instead of room temperature bowls.

Overall: This is a good product. There is a learning curve with this but once you get the hang of it, it's very easy to use. It's super quick and if you have several extra bowls you can make a bunch of different frozen treats at a time. I love the fact that I know what's going into my ice cream and there's no chemicals or strange ingredients like guar gum and carrageenan. I really like this and use it at least a few times a month.

"Ice-Cream Heaven" 2010-02-06
By A. Jones (San Diego, CA)
I bought this item for my 11 year old daughter for Christmas. The whole family loves it. I no longer have to buy ice-cream from the store. We just make it and freeze it now. It is also a way to stay healthier because you can choose how much sugar and other ingredients you put in it. The only thing is I wish I would have gotten white and not pink because it is quite tall and has to stay on the counter top.

"Great ice cream!" 2009-10-29
By C. freeman
I love this machine! I made sugar free ice cream and it was great! I did leave it in a little longer that I should and it wouldn't dispense, but that was my fault. I plan to use this alot. You can make a batch, then freeze it. I can't wait to try a sorbet recipe.

"Very Neat!" 2009-10-04
By T. Williams (Texas, USA)
Beautiful and very functional, this soft serve ice cream maker was a great idea and the way you can pull a lever down to dispense is genius and very enjoyable, especially for kids, I haven't had any problems getting the ice cream to freeze in 15-20 minutes and last night I actually got it to the perfect consistency, just like dairy queen soft serve! So far I have only tried the vanilla with a few little twists of my own and my family loved it. Can't wait to try the other recipes, I'm so glad I invested in this handy appliance!

"A great machine!" 2009-07-04
By PJL (Burke, VA)
We purchased this machine about a year ago and love it! For parties, we are purchasing a second freezer bowl. Here is our favorite recipe:

Raspberry Frozen Yogurt

Prep time: 20 minutes plus freezing time

Cooking time: 2 minutes

You Will Need

2 envelops unflavored gelatin

3/4 cup milk

2/3 cup Splenda

1 quart vanilla low fat yogurt

1 cup raspberries, fresh or frozen and thawed

2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

What to Do

1. In a saucepan, sprinkle gelatin over milk and let stand until moistened. Heat two minutes.

2. Transfer the mixture to a large bowl and whisk in the yogurt. Fold in the raspberries and vanilla extract.

3. Freeze in an ice cream maker.

Cooking Tip: Sprinkle gelatin onto liquid, never the other way round. Always give gelatin a few minutes to swell before heating.

White Mountain F69204-X 4-Quart Electric Ice Cream Freezer

Product By White Mountain(34 customers reviews)
Lowest Price : $177.93
Product Description

For a century and a half, since a woman in New York invented the hand-crank freezer, making ice cream has been an American family value. Mom blended the ice cream mixture; Dad filled the maker's wooden tub with ice and rock salt to achieve the below-freezing temperature needed to produce smooth confections; kids clamored to turn the crank; and everyone happily consumed big bowls of ice cream as a reward. This family-bonding activity remains as vibrant today as it was through a century-and-a-half of "progress." With various ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sherbet recipes included, this old-fashioned White Mountain ice cream maker maintains the tradition. Only the use of modern stainless steel for the freezer can and dasher and the electric motor distinguish this rugged maker from the one earlier generations enjoyed. And years from now it will still be used, knitting together a family's history. --Fred Brack

Technical Details
  • Makes 4 quarts of ice cream, frozen yogurt, and other frozen confections
  • Electric motor makes traditional family fun easier
  • Stainless-steel freezer can and dasher inside wooden tub
  • Ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sherbet recipes included

"Motor problems plague White Mountain" 2010-04-04

"Incredible customer service" 2010-03-29
By K. Wright (Edmond, OK)
I remember from a very young age my parents making incredible ice cream out of a White Mountain. In the past 15 years, I tried using 3 different types of ice cream makers but it was never the same as my mothers. She always told me it was because of her White Mountain. So, I purchased one! I had a problem with the bucket which apparently is extremely rare. My mom had hers for over a decade. I contacted the company. I didn't have a receipt or other proof of purchase. They literally mailed me a new one (after two years of use) without proof of purchase! Then, they mailed me a label to send back the defective one. This one looks great and works well also. Here are some tips:

Before you make ice cream fill up wooden bucket with water. It should hold the water and make the wood swell. This will help make great ice cream.

After you make the ice cream pack it well. My parents put the wooden bucket INSIDE a larger plastic bucket. Then they pack materials around the wooden bucket and place a heavy blanket on top of the ice cream maker after the ice cream is done. The ice cream comes out very solid, sometimes too hard to scoop out!

After you enjoy your ice cream, pour out the salt water and rinse very well. Wash with soap and water. Then dry with a towel.

Often, my mother rubs a little oil around the metal rings and the at the bottom inside of the metal to make sure it doesn't rust.

If you take good care of it you should have it for years and years.

"Will Make Decision after More Use" 2009-09-26
By Ice Cream Lover (Bridgeport, WV)
I purchased two of these ice cream makers and used both almost immediately. The ice cream was excellent! Motors are very loud and definitely should be used outside, which we did. A week later, we used them again, and one of the motors made a terrible noise as if parts were loose inside--so bad that we didn't think it wise to use it. The other one sounded OK (although loud, as I already stated). I contacted "returns," followed their simple instructions, and received a new ice cream maker expeditiously with no charge to me, not even shipping. Have not had the opportunity to try the new one but will do so soon. Since we really are near the end of ice cream making season, I wish I had a longer time for returning.

"Great Ice Cream - Easy to Clean" 2009-08-30
By D. Mirkin (Avon, CT)
We bought the Rival F69204-X-4 Qt ice cream maker in preparation for our annual summer family gathering. None of us had much experience but were able to make great ice cream. The only problem was getting the electric motor securely attached to the wooden bucket using the bracket. It seems like there should be a simpler method needing less muscle. Other than that it works great and is easy to clean.

Nothing beats the caramel aroma and fresh flavor of home-baked waffle cones, and this appliance makes one in about two minutes. "Good performance for the price" 2009-09-21

This waffle maker was a pleasant surprise for the money. Different brands at the specialty stores were significantly more expensive. The cones cooked quickly and evenly and tasted great (used Chef's Choice waffle cone mix). They were a big hit with the guests of our small party.

"really great purchase" 2009-06-28
By [1persons opinion (vancouver, bc Canada)
I've been looking for one of these forever and really happy I found it finally. I love fresh made waffle cones as a cookie substitute and now my daughter does too. They are so much better than store bought and you know that they have the best ingredients in them because you used the best. I haven't quite got the trick of the folding so you have no hole at the bottom. Oh well, I guess the less perfect ones are for the cook! Fun and only takes a few minutes to whip up a batch.

"Easy to use" 2009-03-30

I received this waffle cone maker a couple of weeks ago and I used it the day I got it. I made waffle cone cups for ice cream sundaes. Everybody loved them. I found that the recipe that uses butter didn't stick, but the recipe using oil did stick a little. I'm sure my grandkids will have fun eating ice cream cones. The adults sure enjoyed it!!

Amazon.com Review
No salt or ice are needed to create 1 quart of ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet, or frozen drinks at home with this ice-cream maker. Just turning the crank occasionally for 15 or 20 minutes is all it takes. The unit's freezer bowl goes into a refrigerator's freezer for about 7 hours to freeze the liquid between its walls. The bowl then goes into the outer case, the paddle goes into the bowl, ingredients go into the bowl, the transparent top is locked in place, and the crank is turned. The aluminum bowl cleans easily, the outer case and top are plastic so they wipe clean. The unit measures 9-1/2 inches high and 8 inches in diameter (not including handle). It carries a 10-year warranty against defects. An instruction booklet containing many recipes is included. --Fred Brack

"I love my Donvier!!" 2010-05-31
By JaynED (Virginia)
This is the second Donvier I have owned...the first was a gift and was used for well over 20 years before it was retired. I was very happy when I found this one on Amazon.com. It works great and we enjoy having homemade ice cream in less than a half an hour or so. It's very easy to use and clean.

"ice cream comes out well, terrible construction of ice cream maker" 2010-05-26
By lebowski (new haven, ct)
So this is a pretty basic piece of equipment. You have the canister you freeze, and the plastic housing, along with the blade and the handle. As soon as I took this this thing out of the box, the bottom of the plastic container fell off, and then part of the handle fell off as well(not the detachable handle used to turn blade, rather the handle that is supposed to be permanently fixed onto the plastic housing). TERRIBLE CONSTRUCTION, overall, do not buy this overpriced thing, I am sure that other manual ice cream makers out there do the exact same thing, probably with much less hassle, for a LOT cheaper than 65 dollars.

"Best maker on the market--had mine for over 15 years!" 2009-10-27
By K. Liljenquist
I'm a shameless ice cream junkie, so I have used and abused this ice cream maker ever since I was in high school--even took it to college with me! The Donvier is so durable and versatile. Ice cream makers are indispensable for anyone serious about ice cream since the tastes is unrivaled, so here's what I love most about the Donvier (compared to other makers I've used):

1) It's silent!

2) Doesn't have to be plugged in--gives you freedom to move it around (and also means you don't have a motor/electronics to worry about burning out)

3) Only requires a stir every couple minutes (you don't have to constantly crank this thing)

4)It's fast. My pint-size Donvier is ready in 15-20 minutes; the quart size is ready in about 20-25 minutes (depends how cold your mixture is to start with).

5) Easy to clean: throw plastic parts in the dishwasher, and just run water over the metal cylinder, wipe it out and throw it back in the freezer.

6) Always ready: I keep mine in the freezer so I can make ice cream on a whim--never have to worry about ice, salt, and the accompanying mess.

"Attention Unhappy Customers!" 2009-09-23
By Leha Carpenter (California Coastal Redwoods)
I ordered my Donvier a couple of weeks ago, in spite of some negative reviews, because I've used this type of ice cream maker before and I like the hand cranking, no-salt method. It's also small and easy to store. Since I received my Donvier I have experienced every problem listed by a negative reviewer for this product, and I have found the single solution to all of them.

When I got the Donvier I made some ice cream right away and it came out perfect--yay! Then I thought, hmm, better with a little less sugar. So I tried it again. Disaster! The mixture got all slushy, with too-large ice crystals, and it never really froze. This sounded suspiciously like one of the negative reviews I'd read, but since the first batch was great, I tried again. WORSE! Not even any ice crystals this time. The Donvier I now possessed could not freeze an ice cube. I started thinking "defective product," and was considering sending it back. But then I remembered reading recently that self-defrosting freezers often change temperatures in order to keep frost from building up, and I wondered if it wasn't a temperature issue.

As an experiment, I lowered my freezer temperature setting by 2 notches, and then refroze the Donvier. When I went to make ice cream with the same mix that would not freeze at all before, suddenly it was freezing way too fast! The handle became stuck, and the lid kept popping off! Too cold, Goldylocks!

So I set the freezer to the middle setting. Now my Donvier performs just like all those ones with the five star reviews. Ahhhh.

Lesson for the consumer: If you are going to use a Donvier, be prepared to manage your freezer temperature. You can get an inexpensive freezer thermometer, or experiment like I did.

Lesson for Donvier (and the reason I knocked a star off of your wonderful product): This needs to be in the documentation. It's not enough to tell people that they should have their freezer at below zero, because everyone assumes theirs is already. You need to put a paragraph in your little book that talks about the ideal temperature--not too cold, not too warm--and how to find it. Good docs make a five star product.

"For the People Reading the Negative Reviews:" 2010-06-05
By Jamie Lynn Herring
This is a wonderful product. The item was never intended to replace the electric ice cream makers. It was made for people who go to parks, beaches, camp outings, anywhere there isn't electricity. It does take some time to make the ice-cream and it is small (I bought 2 to make up for this so I can also make two flavors) but it is wonderful to be able to go camping and have ice cream when it's blistering hot outside. Kids love it. They sit down and roll the ball back and forth to each other to make the ice cream. So if you have any bad feelings about the negative reviews, just remember that this product was not intended to be used in your kitchen. I love it and it's wonderful. I make ice cream cakes for birthdays when we go camping and it makes great slushie mixed drinks for the adults. If you want something for the kitchen, this isn't the ice cream maker you want. But if you enjoy having ice cream at places you normally couldn't, this is a great product.

"imagine "playing with a bowling ball"" 2010-04-19
By Amanda W (Virginia)
I don't understand how this thing has so many good reviews! Don't expect to throw or kick this around. It is hard plastic filled with heavy ballast. I'm not sure why they made the external portion with all the grooves because it's difficult to even roll. A friend bought this for my kids. They were sorely disappointed in this thing and my friend was embarrased. Maybe my kids are too little? both under 10. I was worried about them dropping the ball and it shattering-or worse, landing on a toe.It made ok soft icecream after 2 adult men tossed it short distances. it was a pain to fill and a pain to clean.

"Play and Freeze great fun and so tasty" 2010-04-14
By Marilyn A. Filipos
I bought this for a niece, a grandson, and a nephew. They all loved it so much and had a great time with it. It makes yummy ice cream. It does take a while, but keeps the child exercising. I plan to buy another for my other grandson. Provides great fun, interaction with others, exercise and great ice cream.

"works but can take a while" 2010-03-16
By jrdxines (nashville,tn)
Yes, it does really work, but it took about 40 minutes to make ice cream(quart). The ice cream was delicious. Then we tried frozen yogurt and that took about an hour to freeze. We had to reseal the lid b/c it wasn't on just right and it was very difficult to get the frozen yogurt off the metal sides. You do better to buy frozen yogurt. I think it's ideal for camping when your options are limited on things to do, though we passed it while watching tv.

Kids love. Fun to make up your own flavors. Kosher salt works just fine.

When the whole neighborhood brings the kids to your house, this extra freezer bowl provides needed flexibility by letting you make an additional batch of your favorite ice cream, frozen yogurt, or sorbet. Little assembly is required to use this extra bowl, as it's made to fit on the Cuisinart ice-cream maker. The bowl does not come with a lid for storage of your sweet creations, and so should be kept away from any heat source, and it's not dishwasher-safe. --Teresa Simanton

I purchased my Cuisinart 1-1/2-Quart Additional Freezer Bowl, fits ICE-20 Ice Cream Maker February 6, 2002 from Amazon for $29.99 and it still works great! I noticed the price has come down. Can't say that about many things...

It works great if you don't wash it with hot, hot water after use... otherwise it loses its ability to chill again.... enjoy.

It is a great little machine. Lot more handy and a lot more mess without the ice or salt.

"mmmmmmm...good" 2010-01-02
By sassy n gassy (baltimore, md)
We love this ice cream maker. It is so easy. It's not too noisy and it is easy to clean. I have only made two batches so far but they came out great. It makes about a quart which is perfect for our family of four. We each get about a cup so you won't sit there and eat the whole carton by yourself! You will need a container to store ice cream in. When it first comes out, it is like thick soft serve. If you want it more solid, you need to transfer it to the freezer but you can't use the maker to do that. I bought the Ben & Jerry recipe book, too and I am looking forward to trying their recipes out.

I totally recommend this ice cream freezer. I received one for my Birthday & I'm buying two for Christmas gifts. I recommend you get an extra freezer bowl so you can make more than one batch if you have several people eating.

"Everyone is loving the ice cream!" 2010-06-01
By Liz (Shelton, CT)
Unfortunately, the cover to the machine is already broken. IT is very awkward to get the pieces to fit properly. When I tried to put the plastic cover on, two pieces snapped off. The machine is noisy but makes delicious ice cream. It's not hard to do either. After it is processed, it definitely needs to go in the freezer for a few hours otherwise I find it to be too soft.

"A little fix for the loose motor arm" 2010-05-20
By T. Dushole (No. Va.)
While I agree with most of the positive remarks from other reviewers, I too was bothered by the apparent loose connectivity of the motor arm. I remedied this with a simple elastic strap with plastic coated flat hooks that I secure to the compressor motor vents. If you keep an ear peeled to the operation sounds, you will hear the motor reverse it's direction when the product begins to stiffen up. Then remove it and store in the freezer to harden up.(after mixing in any additives like fruit & nuts) I've made up custard mix in advance, refridgerated overnight, taken a bunch of different additives, and shown up at parties and picnics with the maker. Allowing people to make their own soft serve ice cream creations has always been the hit of the party, and resulted in a number of subsequent purchases of the machine. All year long it's one of the favorite machines in my kitchen.

"Good quality and value for money spent." 2010-04-19
By S. MCCORMICK (Kirriemuir, AB, Canada)
This machine performs as advertised. I don't have a lot to add to the existing reviews, but I'd like to highlight the following items after a year of using this machine to make two or three batches of ice cream per week:

1. It truly is noisy as hell. This is the only complaint I have about it. We put it in the spare room while it's running so we don't have to listen to it.

2. Never fill the churning bowl less than 1/3 full and never more than 1/2 full. Less than 1/3 full, the ice cream freezes to the churning paddle and rotates inside the bowl. More than 1/2 full and the machine shuts down prematurely before enough air has been churned into the product. We get the best results when we split a batch into two separate churns rather than trying to fit everything into the bowl and only churn once.

3. The recipes that come with the machine are horrid -- Google is your friend here. Look for the egg custard based recipes, they taste the best.

If not for the noise, I would have given the machine 5 out of 5 stars. We've owned ours for a year this month and it's been a trooper.

Crappy, worked once so loud we couldn't stand it, then it never worked again. Can't get anyone to repair whatever is wrong with it, Cuisinart doesn't want to deal with it, bought from Cutlery and More, their phone number doesn't work, it sucks.I'm going to throw it away or use it for a boat anchor!Had only ONE very expensive cup of Ice cream.very frustrating!
