Boy was I dissapointed in this "dedicated" machine. I've been making snow cones using my food processor with the cole salw disc and it turns out that it does as good as or better than this thing. My blender makes much better shushies than this one. You would think that a devise that is intended for one thng only could do it well. I purchased this item along with the snow cones cups and three syrup flavors. I had four kids waiting for snow cones. I read the manual, which was straightforward, placed ice in the chamber and turned it to snow cone. It spun around and around and around but it did not shave the ice. The troubleshooting section of the manual suggested reconfiguring the ice. So I moved the cubes around and went for round 2. It sill wouldn't shave the ice. I tried three different style cubes - the ones made by my fridge (crescent), cubed ice (from ice cube trays) and bagged ice (hollow pellets). None of the ice would shave.Only then did I read the reviews on Amazon to discover that this was design issue which most other people had experienced.Long story short - no snow cones and four disappointed kids.Do not, I repeat, do not buy this product. It would be better to take the $20, buy 100 razors, and sit the shave the ice by hand.

This was a complete waste of money. The inside churner is light plastic - stops as soon as the contents aren't liquid. So, you can have sweet milk, or frozen milk -- no ice cream. I didn't even expect it to be regular ice-cream texture, just more like soft ice-cream, but all that happened was that contents froze. Really, buy a better one, or save or money.

This ice cream maker attempts to solve one of the problems of low-cost ice cream makers, which either use a freezable bowl or ice and rock salt: the need to plan ahead. It sounds like a wonderful idea to be able to pop the whole unit it the freezer and magically get out ice cream, but the way that good, smooth ice cream is made is to freeze the mixture _fast_. Having ice or a bowl with frozen gel allows heat to quickly conduct out of the ice cream mixture, discouraging the formation of large ice crystals and creating a smooth result. This unit, however, relies on the cold freezer air to freeze the ice cream over hours. The result is a grainy mess. High-fat mixtures do a little bit better (the formation of ice crystals is limited by all of the milkfat), but forget ice milk, frozen yogurts, or frozen fruit desserts. The result, quite literally, will not be much different than if you just placed a bowl in the freezer.

Originally this was an impulse buy which got me a "what did you buy now" look from my wife (who usually abhors anything that even vaguely resembles a "gadget"). Although she may try to claim otherwise, I think I actually won that debate when she first tasted the ice cream we made.If you've never had fresh ice cream, it is a treat to behold. WIthout any of the artificial preservatives and sugars that are added to commercial ice cream, you can really taste the full flavor and texture of the fruit. Compared to commercial ice cream, it's lighter, has a much fuller and richer taste, and is much healthier. My only regret is that it's not big enough, so buy two. :-)

For those of you out there that are lactoce intolerant...You HAVE to get this amazing machine!. My basic recipe for this machine is:

1 cup Non-dairy coffee creamer (Coffee Mate liquid - any flavor you like)
1/2 Cup sugar

1/2 tsp vanilla

1/2 cup non-dairy whipped topping

1 pint strawberries, peaches, etc. blended smooth

Just mix it all together, put in ice cream machine and let it go for 5 hours! The creamiest, best lactose free ice cream I have ever eaten!I have also made butter pecan (Coffee Mate Butter Pecan flavor) with Bakers toffee bits in it (I just increased the amount of Coffee Mate by 1/2 cup to keep it from getting to much like pudding).I tried the basic recipe that came with the machine and did not have good luck with it; maybe it's because I did not use real milk with the eggs, so I found another recipe that I could used the Cofee Mate non-dairy liquid creamer in.....it's awesome using the recipe I have listed above.This is the one of the best purchases I have ever made; machine performs as advertised and even better than advertised. Easy to clean, a no-brainer to operate and now I can eat ice cream with everyone else and not have to suffer with my severe lactose interolerance.

This is a complete waste of money. I have one and it does nothing but frustrate me. I tried it twice and both times it shaved about a tablespoon or two of ice before jamming. It is useless. I can't believe Hamilton Beach would actually sell something which operates so poorly. I use ice from cubes made in my freezer- not purchased or made by an ice machine which someone else suggested could be the problem. It's packed in my garage to go into the trash next cleanup day. I wouldn't even try to get rid of it for one dollar at a garage sale!

Does not make shaved ice. More like chipped ice in two versions. Coarse and coarser. It is consitently finer than an ice crusher though. I still like it and use it. The things I like about it is the large hopper on top that I fill with regular ice cubes, the large container that collects a large amount of chipped ice, no mess, fast and easy to use.

Unfortunately, I didn't open it until the return window had passed. When I opened the box, it was clear it had been opened, used, and returned. No one had even bothered to try to repackage it. I bought this a few months ago, with the extra bowl, and have not stopped using it. Once you get the basic recipes for making ice creams and frozen yogurts, you can go to town creating your own flavors. Also, homemade tastes a million times better than anything you will purchase at the grocery store. The machine could not be easier. I store the canisters that contain the freezing liquid in my freezer. I like having two so I don't have to wait a day to make another flavor, I can make 2 flavors in the same day (you see once you use the canister, it needs 24 hours to refreeze before it is ready to use again). You prepare your mixture in a bowl, chill it (if necessary) then pour it into the ice cream maker. Turn it on, and you will have homemade ice cream (or frozen yogurt) in 30 minutes. My favorite flavor has been Nutella Frozen Yogurt made with nonfat Greek yogurt, Nutella and vanilla beans. The second batch I made I swirled in peanut butter. I am telling you, I have been using it for 3 months and I am still having a ball with it!

This is the most fun appliance I've gotten in a long time. I think in the one month I've had it, I've made ice cream on average 3 times a week. My grandkids and kids love the output (hubby too)!! The receipes that came with the ice cream maker are awesome. Because I watch my weight, I've substituted 1/2 and 1/2 for the cream and 2% milk for whole milk and the results are still yummy. Who ever thought of the freezer bowl had a real brainstorm. I only wish I had bought only one bowl because I transfer the contents to another container and firm up the ice cream in my frige top freezer. This maker runs quiet and is easy to clean. By the way the shipper was fast too. Good job - Cuisinart!

This is fantastic for a family! We just got this yesterday at the urging of my 10-year-old son. After freezing the freezer bowls for the recommended time, we whipped up two batches of to-die-for ice cream this evening, utilizing recipes from the included booklet. The texture is rich, creamy and wonderful, and in my humble opinion, much better than store-bought stuff!The machine seems sturdy enough for regular home use and is relatively quiet (no louder than our dishwasher) and very easy to use. The freezer bowls are great, and having an extra one (as included with this product) is super handy. There is no messing with salt or ice; you just mix up your recipe, pour it into the freezer bowl and let 'er rip! Easy as pie ... mmmm, pie. With ICE CREAM, of course!

my friend bought this product for me for my birthday n i was sooo happy to get it cuz she knows i love icecream n i always wanted n ice cream maker... so i open it up n read the instructions to use it the next day cuz u have to freeze the bowl overnight for 8 hours max, so i did n i bought the things on the recipe n i poured it like it said n waited for more than 20mins for the ice cream to make?..... it does not work it only makes the liquid cold n thats it, it is nt even soft serve as it says.... sucks cuz i cant return it since she bought it early enough to get it to me on my bday.. i thanked her, but sucks not to have something sooo promising work... its a piece of mierda so dont buy it....

I haven't tried my ice cream freezer yet because we have both been on diets and can't lose weight if I make ice cream. I have been known to make 7 batches of ice cream in two weeks,(my husband is an ice cream conisour). If we are going to have company, I ask him if I should make ice cream. His reply is, "why, then I will have to share it with them." I love making it and he loves to eat it. The only kind of ice cream there really is, is home made vanilla. I can't wait to try my new ice cream freezer. I have worn 2 of them out. The last one burned when our house burned and we lost everything. Are the materials cheaply produced? When we took it out of the box, we were blown over by the chemical smell. After soaking the wooden tub, it went away, but my sinuses were burning by then. Then we made the ice cream and that part was fun. But the motor stopped before the ice cream was frozen. Also, a disappointing thing happened - I could taste an aluminum aftertaste in the ice cream from the aluminum bowl. The ice cream literally tasted like aluminum foil. We have to take this back for a refund. We are looking for one with a steel bowl now. Overall, a disappointing experience. I gave it one star because that was the only way to proceed making the review.

Everything is good except the motor. Thr first batch of ice cream did not freeze before the motor cut off. Second batch of ice cream was even worse. The motor stopped working before the batch started to thicken. Aroma needs to work on the motor!!! My average cost per gallon of ice cream was in excess of $50 per gallon. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

I purchased the Aroma AIC-206EM 6 on July 16, it arrived on July21,I put it in use on July 25, and it gave me a big dissapointment. The crank would not churn the ice cream , and it eventually broke, I contacted the manufacturer requesting return authorization, the promised to send me a new crank which I received on August11, I will be using it on August 22, wish me luck.You see when I looked up the product it said a manual ice cream maker, but when it arrived I was supprised to see that it was mainly electric, which was shocking because I already have aa electric maker. After August 22 I will update you with another review. We love our icecream maker! It is great to be able to choose from hand crank or automatic. When using the automated churner the motor stops automatically when the icecream is done churning so you have to keep and eye on the icecream maker. The kids love to hand crank it but get tired before the icecream is done. We use the vanilla ice cream recipe to make all our icecream we just add flavored milk from a local dairy to flavor it. We have made rootbeer, strawberry, and cotton candy icecream so far and look forward to making banana, coffee, and chocolate soon.

I Purchased this back in December and still haven't been able to get this to work correctly. Sure, the Ice cream maker will mix up everything when the "PRE" button is pressed, but we were not able to get the "pro" (only other button on the device) to work. What the "PRO" button is supposed to do is mix the ice cream mixture in the bowls at regular intervals while the device is in the freezer -this way you won't end up with a frozen block of whatever it is that your making while it is freezing. Wish I could say that this device did that - nope, the button light would be lit, indicating that it was ready to do it's job, but each and every time the ice cream maker was put in the freezer - the "ice cream" would end up never having been mixed, just one solid, frozen mass. We've tried "fresh" batteries and still no luck with seeing any attempt by the machine to even try to mix anything after the "pro" button was set. Opening up the device to see what might be the problem didn't offer any clues other than the insides are pretty basic and the circuit board made by cnnbst (?) is another cheap, useless product from China (why expect quality?). Anyway, save our money or think about spending it on something else that actually works. Even if you are lucky enough to get this thing to work, don't expect it to last long. Wish I could rate this less than I did since I can't get my money back or the time I wasted trying it.

I've used this unit 3 times now with unsatisfactory results each time. Long before the 4-5 hours specified in the manual were up, the motor -- which is only driven by 4 AA batteriess after all -- stopped having enough oomph to stir the thickening liquid. And if you patiently wait for the alotted time to expire like I did at first, trusting that it was sitting in your freezer working as it should, you end up with a very solid, very un-ice-cream-like lump of frozen crystalized cream. I had slightly better results by checking on it after a few hours and manually stirring a bit to break up the biggest clumps and get the blades going again, but it still wasn't what I would call a good experience. I regret purchasing this thing, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

It's inexpensive, doesn't have to be plugged in and doesn't need ice or salt--three things plenty of folks are looking for in an ice-cream maker!
The ice cream turns out pretty good (if you use a good recipe!), and it is just the right amount of ice cream for 2-4 people after dinner--just start it about 4 hours before! Also, since it's such a small amount of ice cream, you don't have to worry about hard-to-find additives that will make it still "scoopable" the next day--it will be eaten by then!
It cleans up easily, as long as you don't overfill the cups and rubberband the top on so it doesn't slip.
IT'S STILL CHEAP, THOUGH. I use mine a couple of times a week, and it definitely shows some wear (gears slip occaisionally). In my case, having this machine for a few months has convinced me that I WILL make ice cream often, and therefore a heavy-duty machine will be cost-effective for me.
But for people who will only use the machine a few times a month and are on a budget, this ice-cream maker is ideal!

These popsicle molds are very cute, and seem sturdy with nice handles that catch drips, but the swirly part of it makes it difficult to remove the popsicle from the mold, and so far every time, the popsicle has broken in half. They don't hold very much either, pretty small.

The good:
- they're silicon popsicle molds
- hold about a double-shot-glass' worth of liquid (perfect for snacking, or for smaller stomachs)
- they are individual popsicles held in a stand, so you don't have to defrost the whole batch just to eat one
The unexpected/not so good:
- the molds peel off in a way that causes the mold to be inverted, which makes it easy to clean, but does require that you turn them back right side out.
- there isn't anything to indicate the maximum fill level on the interior of the mold.
- the drip catcher is hard to drink out of if you do wind up with drips (if you're an adult.)
Overall, I like them, but they're running second to the Tovolo molds I got at the same time.

Just received these from Amazon a few days ago and have used them already. What can I say? They are easy to fill, use, and clean. I can put just plain juice (orange is a good one) or yogurt or whatever in them. I like the swirly pattern - really cute. I wish they also came in a larger size, too. My kid loves them. I will definitely be ordering at least one more set for our household, and will be adding this to my list of gift ideas for parents of little kids.

These ice pop molds are fantastic. Removing the cover to get to the ice pop, is so easy. I only wish they were a little larger. This size limits you to give only to the tiny tots. For kids that are older, one is not enough. But they still are really nice. I highly recommend them.

Sure this item is sort of a cool idea...but does it perform well? NO. It's simply a novelty. Inner bucket is difficult to remove, ice cubes are very small(it makes enough ice for about 4 glasses), lid is not a tight fit on the bucket = not a good ice maker.

The Ice cubes are a perfect size and the tray saves space.. the extra storage is bonus! It is slightly hard to get the ice out on the first few tries but once you know how its a lot easier after the plastic loosens up. It is a great conversation piece for your freezer! not to mention it can hold a bottle of Wine! I seriously don't need or care bout that feature BUT I know a lot of people that would love it! yup, i like it! yeah, getting the ice out can be a bit tricky, but i love how compact and versatile it is. my method for ice removal is: let it sit for a minute or so; squeeze all around the top to break up the ice on the sides; start pushing on the bottom. i use a corner of the counter to get started. and then, POP! i have ice!

This Ice Orb tray has been the solution to our problem. We never have enough room to put an ice cube tray and this has solved that. It don't even have to be sitting up right in the freezer. There is a fill line on the container to fill it up to, but I would go a little below that line because when you go right to it, it overflows a little bit leaving a little water to ice up and make it harder to get the container out. Doesn't hold 2 trays full of ice inside but holds probably 1.5 trays. Definitely worth buy! Don't wait..BUY NOW!

i've been trying to give this thing a chance but i've given up. like most of the negative reviews, i too have a problem removing the container. and it doesn't make enough ice in one go, 3 tall drinks and you've used up that batch of ice. i bought some standard generic ice trays (like the one's that your grandparents used) and they are so much easier to use, make twice as much ice and costs $1.50 per tray. i guess if you want cute little ice cubes, like to keep making ice, don't mind taking time to get them out and want to spend 4 times more than a generic tray then this is the one for you.

This is an easy, dependable machine, making great ice cream every time. It is a little noisy, but not as bad as others we tried. We keep ours in the bathroom next to the kitchen so we can let it run behind a closed door. It's capacity is small, just one quart. At first this seemed like a drawback, but as it turns out, we do a lot more experimenting (Potato chip vanilla ice cream!). Because it is ready whenever and can make batch after batch I would recommend spending the money on this rather than the type with a freezable insert. This is also a very solid machine. We have had 2 different machines of our own and borrowed some from friends, this is by far the easiest to use, and not fragile, like some others.

Received my Gelato maker with lightning speed after placing order. Great service from Amazon. However, my machine was faulty and stopped churning during the first batch. Contacted Amazon and returned faulty machine two days later. Amazon sent a replacement upon notificztion. Again fast shipping and the replacement works great. Makes great gelato and haven't had any problems. We are working this machine daily since we received it. The temperature here has been in the triple digits thus making the gelato very refreshing.

What a wonderful invention! I can now make delectable, organic (or not) ice cream exactly how I like it. Oh, did I mention FAST?? Put a few ingredients into the " magic" bowl turn it on and between 20-30 minutes, voilà! Better than Baskin! I've made choco chip, coffee, mixed berry, fresh peach, nectarine, amazing vanilla. And that was just the first week! I don't like it real sweet, so I put in about 1/4 c sugar if that, non fat organic milk, fat free 1/2 & 1/2, with the fresh fruit & fresh vanilla. What a treat, delicious & even kinda healthy. That's my story & I'm sticking to it! l LOVE this machine!

I spent a few weeks looking through all the ice cream makers I might want, being sure to choose the right one. I read all the reviews and although many angered buyers reported the failures of their purchase I still chose the White Mountain freezer. Its the best ice cream maker on the market, and I didn't believe their misfortunes would happen upon me. So I anxiously awaited the arrival of my ice cream freezer......10 BUSINESS DAYS LATER........my ice cream maker still hasn't come. Now I know this is not totally White Mountains fault, the only poor decision they made was choosing FedEx to ship their products. I ended up having to drive 30 minutes out of my way to retrieve my ice cream maker. I was not pleased. In the next week I made three different batches of ice cream and during the fourth batch the motor puttered out. I would have cried but I couldn't be weak in front of all my friends. The next day I called the 1-800 number for White Mountain and talked to an Indian employee. He could speak English pretty well but when transposing very important information, White Mountain's e-mail address, there was a misunderstanding. So White Mountain did not receive my email confirming my purchase and waited another week until calling back. I called back, got the real email address and sent the email. I have been waited another week and still no ice cream maker. I do like the ice cream that was produced and that is the only reason I gave it three stars but this is ridiculous.........

Tried to use it Sunday for a big July 4th party. Had wonderful batch of fresh peach ice cream that everyone was excited to try. It was purchased June 2009 for last July 4th party and worked wonderfully. Has been stored indoors in original packaging so it hasn't been misused. Plugged it in this year and it screamed. All attempts to correct the issue didn't work. Appears to be power shaft coming out of the motor. After researching return policy, purchasing of parts and reading other reviews, I realized that there's nothing that can be done. So much for attempting to purchase a quality product rather than a cheap plastic freezer. Don't purchase unless you're willing to have only a few batches of very expensive ice cream.

Powerful but noisy motor. Needs fiddling with to get clamp to hold motor in place but once everything is all set it does the job in about 20-25 min. 6 qt. capacity means you use about 3 qts. of liquid and end up with about 4 qts. of frozen product. Best of its type; I'd buy again.

I MAKE A GOOD BIT OF HOMEMADE ICE CREAM, AND USE ONLY THE WHITE MOUNTAIN. SOME DON'T LAST TOO LONG. THEY BEGIN TO LEAK GREASE, WHICH CAN SEEP INTO THE BARREL. The product description for this product is wrong. I was expecting to mix my ingredients, put them in the machine, turn it on, and have ice cream in 20 minutes. Instead, I must freeze the ice cream receptacle in the freezer for 6 to 22 hours before I can make ice cream. I am very disappointed with this product. It does make good ice cream, but is very inconvenient to use, and the 1 1/2 quart capacity makes enough ice cream only for 2 or 3 people.

I have done so much research on the ice cream makers on Amazon that I went a bit crazy trying to decide which to get. Then I decided to buy my cute little ice cream maker at Sam's ($39.). I have used it twice now and here are my observations:

1. Yes, it is noisy, but not intolerable.

2. The bucket MUST be frozen SOLID in order to work correctly.

3. It makes wonderful ice cream.

4. It (1 1/2 quarts)is a bit small-especially once you start adding additional ingredients towards the end (we like to add chopped up cookies or candy) and I am afraid it will spill out or clog. I end up dumping everything into a container and mixing stuff in by hand. I am seriously considering getting a 2 quart just for the extra space and peace of mind--even though this machine makes enough ice cream for a small family.

5. You have to work a bit fast when transfering the ice cream from the bucket to the storage container. It can melt quickly so just have everything ready to go.

6. Make sure to clean and dry and wrap the bucket and put it back into the freezer asap so it is ready to go for the next batch.

Overall a good buy and I would reccommend it because I don't think there are other 1 1/2 qrt. makers that offer too much more or better for the money.

I bought one of these for myself about a year ago then decided to buy this one from Amazon.com for my Mom for Christmas. I keep the freezer bowl in the freezer all the time just in case I want to make some at the last minute. I find that it only takes about 20 mins to have the ice cream frozen and ready. Of course, you do have to follow the instructions which say to chill the mixture in the fridge for a while. If you don't, then it may take longer and not set up as hard. I usually make it ahead of dinner then when it's finished I put it into a container and put it in the freezer to serve for dessert. It does make some noise but not excessively. Still don't want to hear it while eating dinner. It's pretty easy to use and pretty easy to clean up afterwards. Love it. Ice cream is as good as the recipe you use and as good as any other home made ice cream I've ever had.

The only issue I have with it: the mixture sticks to badly to the sides of the freezing container, you either have to scrape it out, or wait for it to melt (which takes a while, the whole container has to totally warm back up). You loose a quite a bit of the mixture that way, and it locks up the machine and won't stir it anymore because of this, so I end up with about 1/2 of what I put in there.

I love making ice cream. Usually done in one of the inexpensive freezer bowl type machines. Hated to have to freeze the bowl. I have been looking at these self contained freezers for a number of years. Now that they are affordable, I purchased the Whynter. Recieved it the day before Christmas. Finally made some Ice Cream yesterday. My machine arrived packed very well in two box's. The unit came out in perfect condition. There is very little you have to know to use it. I skimmed the manual for two minutes then i was on my way. You turn on the power switch and it starts to freeze. slide in the pot with your ice cream base, insert the mixer, then put the motor and lid on top. Press start and the timer defaults to 60 min. I don't need to use the timer since the motor will shut off 30 seconds after the ice cream thickens to the point that motor can not turn the mixer any longer. I did not wait that long. I removed the ice cream before it became that frozen. After removing the ice cream to a bowl and into the freezer i poured a new batch into the machine and imediatly made a second batch. I loved being able to freeze ice cream as soon as i wanted. The unit worked perfectly. When done the only parts i had to clean was the mixer and the freezer bowl. The lid and motor were untouched by any ice cream. I had an absolute great experience. Now i hope to see the unit work problem free for a long time.

I love this ice cream maker. Had it for 3 years and use it (too) often. Dropped the lid and cracked it, but still works. No other problems with machine. I agree, it does make some noise, but if you like ice cream like me, the noise is music to the ears. I did have one problem that I had read about from other reviewers. That the mixture would not freeze. I found out rather quickly that it wasn't the freezer but rather the recipe. Or, I should say, the vanilla in the recipe. Some cheaper vanilla brands contain Ethylene Glycol, the same thing that's found in antifreeze (want freeze,)....go figure. Read the label on the vanilla. One tablespoon of the vanilla prevents 2 quarts of ice cream mixture from freezing, and not only that, it will thaw-out the freezer bowl in about 15 minutes. I will buy another when this one quits.

This machine really works admirably well for what it is. You must make sure that the freezer is cold enough to fully freeze the canister but then all should be well. For the lazy heath freaks out there, we found that a full bottle of kefir makes a tasty and easy frozen yogurt. It makes a larger portion than the premade stuff and you know exactly what's in it. My only regret is that I didn't purchase a extra freezer cannister when they were cheap. I don't know why it's easier to eat frozen yogurt than regular, but who cares....get yer yum on.

I am thrilled with this appliance because it works as well as I'd hoped. I wanted to be able to make ice cream that tastes like it has been churned by hand for hours, but without all the hassle of gathering ice, salt, cranking, etc. Once the freezer bowl has frozen (I leave it in freezer for 24 hours before I make ice cream), then the simple ingredients can be assembled in minutes. All I have to do is pour mixture in machine, turn to "ON" and it is done in about 20 minutes. I've tried several recipes, from the recipe book that is included and from the Ben & Jerry's recipe book, all have been successful so far. I've made vanilla, fresh strawberry, butter pecan, maple walnut and peanut butter chocolate chip ice cream. It's easier than baking a cake! I love that I can control the sugar and fat content as well as the flavor. All ice cream is initially a soft product, so if you prefer a firmer texture, freeze for a few hours before eating.

I've made several batches of ice cream with this now. Really good stuff!! But what isn't good when you add heavy cream and sugar to something? The flavors are great and it quickly mixes up the ice cream. I do a ice cube bath to cool down the egg mixture quickly so we can have the ice cream in an evening instead of the next day. Plan on doing some of the non-cream recipes for health and see how they turn out.

The info Amazon provides says it's fully automatic, just put the ingredients in and it does the rest. That's not accurate, you must do a little mixing work to prepare the ice cream recipe, then pour it into the machine and then it freezes it. I have made some very good ice creams from both ultra-rich recipes and less-fattening ones, with the final hard-freeze happening in individual dishes in my freezer (easier to serve). You can also indulge in eating it as a soft-serve, and not bother to freeze it harder. Homemade ice cream freezes VERY hard in your freezer, so if you go that route, set it out on the counter about 10 or 15 minutes before you want to eat some. It softens up some and also tastes better. I am concerned about the number of people who said their cannister didnt do the job of freezing the mixture. I think there IS something wrong with their cannister, not the recipe, and not their use of the machine. That's something to take into consideration. If you buy it, try it out right away, a couple of times, make sure all is well, and return it promptly if you don't get the contents to freeze to at least soft-serve stiffness at about 30 to 40 minutes. Yes, it's a little noisy. You could put it in the laundry room or the garage if you hate the sound it makes. I dont think it's that bad, but it isnt silent, it does growl as it churns. Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream book is an excellent choice for recipes, by the way. I bought it, and am delighted! For diabetics, Splenda works very well for sorbet and ice cream recipes. You might like to experiment with Splenda, and perhaps add more to your recipe after you try out one or two -- the sweetness does diminish a little, but the taste is still very good, with no artificial flavor overtones.

Freezing Time and Bowl Preparation

The freezer bowl must be completely frozen before you begin your recipe. The length of time needed to reach the frozen state depends on how cold your freezer is. For the most convenient frozen desserts and drinks, leave your freezer bowl in the freezer at all times. You can take it out any time for immediate use. In general, freezing time is between 6 hours and 22 hours. To determine whether the bowl is completely frozen, shake it. If you do not hear liquid moving, the cooling liquid is frozen. Before freezing, wash and dry the bowl. Wrap it in a plastic bag to prevent freezer burn. We recommend that you place the freezer bowl in the back of your freezer where it is the coldest. Your freezer should be set to 0°F to ensure proper freezing of all foods.

Making Frozen Desserts or Drinks

Use Cuisinart recipes included in the Instruction Booklet or use your own recipe, making sure it yields 2 quarts or less. Do not fill the freezer bowl higher than 1/2-inch from the top. The ingredients will increase in volume during the freezing process. For best results, prepare the ingredients in a container from which it is easy to pour.
Remove the freezer bowl from the freezer and place on the center of the base. The bowl will begin to defrost quickly once it has been removed from the freezer. Use it immediately after removing from freezer.
Place mixing bowl arm in freezer bowl. Arm does not fit tightly. It just rests in the center of the bowl, with the circle side facing up.
Place lid on the base. Easy lock lid mechanism allows the lid to rest on base in multiple positions.
Turn the On/Off switch to ON position. Freezer bowl will begin to turn.
Immediately pour ingredients through ingredient spout.
Frozen desserts or drinks will be done in 25-35 minutes. The time will depend on the recipe and volume of the dessert or drink you are making. When the mixture has thickened to a soft serve consistency, it is done. If you desire a firmer consistency, transfer the dessert or drink to an airtight container and store in the freezer for two or more hours.

Adding Ingredients

Ingredients such as chips and nuts should be added about 5 minutes before the recipe is complete. Once the dessert or drink has began to thicken, add the ingredients through the ingredient spout. Nuts and other ingredients should be no larger than a chocolate chip.

I've only used this once, to make plain vanilla ice cream (following the recipe in the manual), and the ice cream was excellent. Like other machines out there, it is a bit deceiving to think you can have fresh ice cream made in 30 minutes; the reality is the inside container must be frozen for hours before-hand, and many recipes require that the mix be refrigerated for several hours before being made. It is also a fairly loud machine while in use, so I won't be using it when my children are sleeping. The end result, however, is very good.

If you love to eat and serve frozen desserts but happen to be lactose intolerant (only lactose-free milk for you), can't process caffeine (only decaf coffee, tea, and chocolate will do), you're hypoglycemic (can't handle much sugar), or you're on a low fat diet, then the Lello 4070 Gelato Junior is your new best friend. With this home version of a commercial machine, you can create killer ice creams, delicious frozen yoghurts, sorbets, sherbets, and gelati which suit your dietary needs. But nobody else will suspect: they'll be too busy asking for seconds. My recent favorites are an orange/carrot sorbet with orange zest and a dash of Triple Sec liqueur; vanilla ice cream with real vanilla bean; which later morphs into a creamy coffee gelato. Yes, you can defrost, add to, and refreeze your creations. All of mine have low sugar, low fat, no caffeine, and no lactose. The Gelato Junior is bigger than I thought, too big for my counter top, but I've found it a spot in a lower cupboard where it never has to move, I don't have to lift it (30 lbs), and it can go on churning out unique desserts. The freezing bucket, though, has a sharp edge which can cut you, so beware. Oddly, the handbook which comes with the Gelato gives no recipes for gelato. So I bought a book called - you guessed it - "Gelato!" My husband, neighbors, and I are having summer fun with this machine and crooning over the icy treats it makes. When we first got this, it was great. Made wonderful ice cream, though it still didn't freeze nearly solid enough. But for no known reason, the paddle stopped turning. Motor goes on, but does not paddle. I attempted to contact the company several times for repair recommendations, and never got through anywhere. Email sent to the address in the manual drew ZERO response. I'm very disappointed; I now have a $300 paperweight. One of the main reasons I chose Lello was due to the other review saying the customer service was so good;apparently it's changed. I will not be purchasing from them again.

I purchased this ice cream maker because I did not want to deal with the other types of makers that either require ice and salt (too messy) or the types which you have to put a bowl into the freezer (takes up too much freezer space and they don't freeze the ice cream well). The machine is well built and is easy to operate. The instruction manual contains many different frozen dessert and drink recipes. The only issue i have is with the "add in" slot where mix-ins are put. It is rather small, but I was able to work around this problem by setting the timer to go off before the ice cream was fully frozen, taking off the top, and adding the mix-ins. After trying the ice cream maker, I was very impressed with the quality of the ice cream that was produced and at the speed at which the ice cream froze. It is also very quiet when in operation. Even though it only makes one quart of ice cream, multiple batches can be made one right after the other. I enthusiastically recommend this ice cream maker.

I just made my first item in this maker-- a Marion Blackberry Sorbet. I had to let it run for more than an hour and fifteen minutes, and it still wasn't totally firm at that point. However, I figured it was good enough and took it out to freeze it. I'm not sure why it's taking so long to work-- after the first recommended 25 minutes, I checked and the mixture was barely colder than when I put it in. Is it normal for it to take this long for the freezer to work?

I bought this machine after the major ice cream makers decided that downsizing the half gallon container was going to be a "great thing" for consumers. The pumped in air and ingredients of the commercial brands also helped me decide it was time to make my own ice cream. At first I thought I had made an expensive mistake. If I had to judge this unit on my first 10 batches I would have given it only one star. Through trial and error I'm now cranking out the best tasting ice cream I have ever had. My first mistake was using store bought vanilla extract, after finding a good online source my ice cream finally started to taste good. Quality ingredients are very important. My second mistake was filling the container with too much liquid, it took forever to freeze. Finally I found that freezing the ice cream for 2 hours after it comes out of the machine is a must. Bottom line, if your having problems at first, don't give up!

First of all, this was very difficult to put together. Some of the pieces just don't seem to fit together right. I had the bucket in my freezer all winter, and pre-chilled my custard in the refrigerator overnight, and it still wasn't enough. It took over 45 minutes for it to thicken, and turned to soup within 15 seconds of serving it into a cup. It also dripped into the cup instead of coming out in a steady stream. I never came close to looking like the item photo. I tried freezing it for a few hours, and the consistency was definitely off - tasted grainy instead of smooth. Save your money and buy a regular ice cream maker where you scoop it out of the bucket.

I am giving this 3 stars not because of the seller. The seller is great! It is because Deni made a soft serve that is no good for a party of any kind. I rarely write poor reviews. However, this is such a horrible product that I am sharing my experience so that others can skip this and look for something better. This did not work. The ice cream never got to a soft serve stage. It stayed runny and messy. I tried it twice. I tried following the directions exactly. I tried freezing everything. I let it run longer than it was supposed to. The ice cream was never ice and it wasn't cream- It never became ice cream. It remained runny liquid. When I called the company to see if I was doing something wrong they told me I had to partially freeze everything- the bowl, the ingredients, everything. That takes a lot of time and more importantly, it does not meet what this product promises (namely ice cream, soft serve in a short time).
Save your money.

After reading some of the feedback on here, I was hesitant to spend the money for the Classic. It was a birthday present for my husband. Right after he got it he made the chocolate ice cream...it was delicious!! It worked perfectly. But I was still worried that during the next few uses something might go wrong. In fact, during our 2nd use we thought the motor had burnt up. It quit working. We tried shutting it off and turning it on again. It wouldn't go. But the motor is actually smarter than we are. In the handbook it says that some mixtures need to harden in the freezer. Remember that and you will be good!! The mixture was done and we just didn't know it. After sometime in the freezer, the strawberry ice cream was perfect!! It has worked great ever since!! I would call this ice cream maker "magical"!! It makes fabulous ice cream and our kids (all 8 of them) love that dad can make enough ice cream for all of us!! It is the best birthday present he could have gotten!! Read the instructions thoroughly and you will save yourself a lot of time!

All in all it is a good product. Little concerned about the banding around the wood bucket and center plate at bottom. Feel that the salt will soon eat them up even washing good after use unless the metals are something that deters rush from salt. The set screw on the manual churn handle is a little below what I think it should be. I like the switch on top of the electric motor churner rather than having to pull the plug when ready to stop freezer when needed. Like the way the manual and electric churner attach to the top of the bucket. Makes good icecream and have used it about 4 times now. Wish I knew what kind of wood the bucket is made of. Have seen better constructed buckets.

I used this icecream maker 5 times before the cheap plastic gears in the electric mixer wore out. The gears in the hand crank are not fit together tightly enough so they tend to skip and grind when I turn the crank. If you want an ice cream maker that breaks after a half dozen uses, then this may work for you.

This is great! We were so excited to use it the first time that we rushed to get the stuff in there after the recommended freezing time for the basin, it was a little thin. The next time it works better and you get a little thicker if you chill the mixture for at least 1/2 the day. I find that it turns out perfect if I mix the cream, sugar and flavoring in the morning and then make it right around dinner time. It's done within 20 minutes and is perfect. The recipe the book came- it's a joke. Get the Ben and Jerry's book--- SO MUCH BETTER. The price is awesome. it's way cheaper than the Cuisinart and works probably exactly the same.

I have used several ice cream makers and by far this is the worst. It is noisy, and takes way to long for the ice cream to churn. Yes, I properly chilled the ice cream mix, yes I properly froze the bowl(second time made sure it was really really frozen. There just is not to the bowl to stay cold enough long enough to do what it needs to do to avoid a soupier mix.. although that still can be frozen into ice cream in the freeze, it just gets a little icy. Properly chilled and churned ice cream should take no longer than 20 minutes. and this design just doesn't do it. It might work if your freezer is large enough to churn it in the freezer. Don't waist your time...or money.. your making more work for yourself buying this machine. Buy one that is properly insulated to maintain the cold throughout the churning process. Remember a proper machine should take no more than 20 minutes. It will work, sort of, it is easy to clean, easy to use.

I received this ice cream maker as a gift a week ago. Since then, I've made three batches of ice cream (all from the recipes included with the machine) and I've found that the ice cream maker works very well. The ice cream is quite soft when it comes out of the machine, but if you pack it into a freezer safe container and put it in the freezer for about 3 hours, it firms up nicely. And it is really delicious! I found the machine quite easy to use. It is a little noisy, but not too bad. The machine itself only runs for 20 to 30 minutes, but the whole process takes a while (chilling the freezer bowl, then making and chilling the ice cream base, then allowing the ice cream to set in the freezer) so you do need to plan ahead. But that isn't a criticism of the machine -- it's just the way the process works. I would recommend this product.

I tried this machine yesterday for the first time. I was extremely happy with the ice cream maker. It was a little louder than I would have liked, but you get used to it after awhile. The only bad thing is that it took about 60 minutes, instead of the 20 to 40 that they say it should take. I had everything chilled and frozen like they said to do, so I don't know. When I first tasted the ice cream, I couldn't believe it!! It tasted like Breyer's. It was soft, so I put it in the freezer in individual freezer bowls for an hour or two and it was hard like the store bought. I used the basic recipe and it was perfect for my family. My husband it totally into Breyer's ice cream and won't eat anything else, but he liked this ice cream just fine! The clean up was easy. As soon as I had the canister cleaned and dryed, I immediately put it in the freezer. Today I made another batch and had the same perfect result and it was just as jummy.

3 stars for refrigeration failure, 5 stars for when it's actually working. Got it two weeks before Father's Day. Churned out 16+ 1-2 quart batches in four weeks...chocolate, nutella, grape-nut, fig, vanilla, strawberry, banana, orange-cream, nutella and nutella. The first batches were great, real creamy, very little ice crystals. The last 4 batches took 50-70 minutes causing a lot of over-run (air) and ice crystals...blech. I REALLY did my research on this purchase and knew other buyers had had this problem. But I saw the other refrigerated ice cream makers also had similar problems. There are no 2qt makers for this price though. The only one that might be an improvement would be the $1100 Pola 5030, with it's guaranteed 20 minute freeze time. The Cuisinart is too noisy for me.Cuisinart ICE-50BC Supreme Ice Cream Maker. The removable bucket is awesome. The add-in chute is small and sometimes difficult to work around. Cleans well. Small footprint. So I decided to send it back to Amazon and get a replacement. I will let you know how it works. If it fails I will save up and get the Pola Lello Musso Pola 5030 Desert Maker

Purchased this as a replacement for my "Simac Il Gelato Pro", which freezes but stops churning as soon as the cream beings to set up. First major problem is the motor is permanently attached to the cover which makes no sense.. Cleaning it can be a very delicate procedure. The beeper on the timer is fairly worthless as it can barely be heard over the sound of the machine. Also, mine may be defective but even with a pre-frozen bowl and cold ingredients, we only get soft serve quality at best and it takes closer to 2 hours!.

I bought this unit about 18 months ago and was initially pleased with it. It replaced a similar unit from this company which I had for years before it failed. My new unit wasn't used often over the time I had it. Recently I attempted to make ice cream and it wouldn't freeze. The compressor must be broken and I was told by the company when I called to have it fixed that it would be almost as expensive to fix as it would be to replace. The spokesman seemed very surprised to learn that the unit had broken in such a short time. To quote him, "It usually takes the compressor longer to fail!" Thanks, I wouldn't reocmment this brand to anyone.

This is a great like ice cream/gelato machine. We also considered the Lello 4080 Musso Lussino 1.5-Quart Ice Cream Maker, Stainless but after reading the reviews of both units we went with this less expensive 4090 model. The exterior is plain white plastic instead of stainless steel, but we are quite happy with the trade-off due to the EASY cleanup of this unit. Remove and rinse the bucket and you are ready for the next batch! I'd also highly recommend Making Artisan Gelato: 45 Recipes and Techniques for Crafting Flavor-Infused Gelato and Sorbet at Home as a great introduction to making gelato. The author goes to great length to explain the methodology and processes involved before he presents his recipes. Very interesting and a great read. A note of caution to first time ice-cream/gelato makers: this device is only one step in the process and produces a fantastic, but "soft" product. Yum! You will, however, need to freeze your ice cream for a few hours if you want "hard" ice cream--and this is true for ALL methods of making ice cream. There are a few low-rated reviews of this device that should probably be ignored for this reason. As an added bonus this unit also makes great frozen margaritas. :)

If you want to make ice cream without hand cranking, this is it!Price is awesome and you don't have to freeze a canister like the more expensive ones. I don't have time nor space to keep an ice cream canister in my freezer, so I was so happy to find this product that makes ice cream the old fashioned way, just I don't have to hand crank. I would rather use ice and rock salt then freeze a canister like the newer designs, so I am glad Rival makes the "old fashioned automatic" ones like this product.Easy to setup and to clean. Easy to take on trips, lightweight but sturdy!I saw one person complain it didn't freeze their ice cream. If you don't use the rock salt properly (that is what makes the ice cold enough), ice cream won't freeze. I attribute their problem to user error, not the product itself.Hope Rival keeps making this product! Nothing beats home made ice cream!

We purchases a Rival 6 Quart Ice Cream Maker.We were surprised to find out by reading the instruction manual that we had to mix the ice cream (with large amounts of costly ingredients like whipping cream and half and half) separately, then refrigerate mixture for half an hour or more, finally place it in the "ice cream maker", let it mix there for 40 minutes, and lastly, place it in the freezer for a few hours. I guess we were foolish to believe it would make ice cream, not just mix it for a while.

COMPARISON:

Cuisinart Automatic 1.5 qt the Rival Gel Canister, and the Rival Electric 4&6 qt ice

I have had quite the experience with ice cream makers lately and am happy to pass on my own comparison.I actually bought the Rival Electric 6qt ice on a whim when I passed by it in the store. This is the same one as the 4qt. ice cream maker that uses rock salt and ice, just larger. (I know it's the same because the inlaws have the 4qt.) It was on sale at Wal-Mart and even cheaper than Amazon.I then exchanged the above ice cream maker, after issues I will get to, for the Rival Gel.You'll notice, however, I have the "verified purchase stamp" on my review of the Cuisinart 1.5 qt automatic ice cream maker. That's because I gave up with Rival after continued problems with my first two ice cream makers and ordered the Cuisinart from Amazon. It's a keeper. However, you may actually prefer one of the other ones I used more if your needs are different from my own so I'll break down my experiences and you can decide:But first...some TROUBLESHOOTING that may help you regardless of the ice cream maker you choose. Is your icecream more of a milkshake than ice cream? I have some chef tips:

1.Never put in chunky ingredients from the beginning. They don't allow the butterfat to freeze correctly. They need to be added at the end (chocolate chips, fruit, etc.)

2.Never use imitation vanilla extract. It contains propylene glycol which not only isn't as good as regular vanilla, it prevents milk and cream from freezing well. Use pure vanilla only.

3.Your ingredients should be cold prior to adding them to the ice cream maker.

4.If you have an electric ice cream maker it needs to be on and spinning prior to putting the ingredients in. If you add the ingredients first and then turn it on, the edges will freeze first to the bowl and your middle won't catch up. (Unfortunately you can't do this on the Rival 4 and 6 qt electric so it always wound up a little runny for me.)

5.If you use an electric gel-bowl ice cream maker the bowl should be stored at the back of your freezer where it is coldest. If your freezer is full of other foods, it will actually be colder than if it is empty so an empty freezer may mean you need to freeze your gel-filled ice cream bowl longer.

6.Cream has a higher butterfat content than milk so it begins to melt far faster and will take longer to freeze so you will see differences from soy milk, milk, non-fat milk etc.

ICE CREAM CAPACITY:

Rival Electric (RE) 4 or 6 qts, depending upon which model you choose.

Rival Gel (RG) one quart

Cuisinart Automatic (CA) 1.5 qts

NOISE LEVEL:

RE: loud; cannot hold a conversation in the same room it's in

RG: loud; cannot hold a convesation in the same room it's in

CA: surprisingly quiet...not silent but quite a purr compared to the other two.

BUILD:

RE: Cheaply made which wound up being our problem. The outside core is a very flimsy plastic. Thinner than my Tupperware. Not only did this not insulate the ice well which resulted in fast melting, it also wore down after a week of the motor popping out of the locked position and it's flexibility allowed pieces of ice to get lodged in the sides and make the motor stop. This is so common that it says in the owner's manual that when it does this you need to stop it and move the ice. This means you always need to be watching it during making. Happens on both size models which is why I had to exchange this originally for the gel model at Wal-mart. That flimsy plastic wore down after just one week from the motor popping off of the lock sockets.

RG: Made better than the other model except the top leaves air in too close to ice cream which means it doesn't freeze as well and the fill hole is on an angle rather than top and is very small so ingredients spill easily.

CA: I like the make, compact so no warm air is inside, sturdy, stores more easily with cord compartment, heavy-duty with no flimsiness or easily broken parts.

CONCEPT:

RE: Winds up costing more due to needing to buy rock salt and crushed ice each time. The manual states to use crushed ice only and this is because the top pops off easily and ice can get lodged between spinning bowl and the side. For some crazy reason, the paddle doesn't spin, the bowl does which means it makes the ice migrate and melt easily. Rock salt should not go down your sink so we would also walk it outside to the street. You don't want it in your yard either. Very messy with all the rock salt and ice being poured in while running in comparison to the other two models.

RG: Freeze the gel bowl for about 24 hours and use no rock salt or ice.

CA: Same as the RG.

ISSUES:

RE: Had lots of problems with having to fool with it during the process to make it work right, turns off automatically even if the icecream is runny when it senses the edges are done.

RG: Motor overheats easily and when it does this it turns off automatically and won't allow you to start it again for another 20 minutes. An ice cream maker isn't needed to mix ingredients but to whip air into it so it doesn't freeze as an ice block but instead becomes fluffy. This means you ruin your mix and have to start over. They need a more powerful motor to avoid this rather than an auto shut off which ruins your batch.

CA: Does not turn off automatically and has never overheated. If you need more freezing time, you can just keep on going. I haven't yet had any problems with my Cuisinart but will report back if one comes up.

TIME NEEDED TO WORK:

RE: Usually 50 min

RG: Usually 35 to 38 min

CA: Usually 20 to 30 min

The time will vary per ingredients. I based the above all on my plain vanilla recipe.All models come with a basic recipe book but they are so basic you'll probably want a good ice cream recipe book. I love the Ben and Jerrys one because it's not just recipes, but goes into the science of making the perfect bowl too. The Cuisinart has the nutritionals to every recipe, the Rival doesn't. You probably don't want to see the calories of ice cream anyway. Especially chocolate!

ICE CREAM CONSISTENCY:

RE: I was very disappointed in the Rival Electric. It runs until it senses the outside edges are done but this left my inside ice cream edges not whipped. It says to get it hard you should freeze it for 4 hours but the next day, since air wasn't whipped in, it left it a block of ice and I couldn't even scoop it. Because of this and then the plastic lock in wearing out is why I returned it for the Rival Gel.

RG: I got a good batch but it was still softer than I wanted, however the next 2 times the motor got hot and, as per the owners manual, apparently this design flaw is common enough that it turns itself off when this happens and won't start again for another 20 min leaving me with 2 bad batches so I returned it.

CA: If you like yours soft, 20 min seems to work well for that but I usually go all the way to 30 min to get the perfect consistency of whipped air into the icecream allowing it to be soft but still easily scooped days later. Even on high butterfat ice cream recipes we had a perfect consistency so I fell in love with this one. That was the main thing for me, to get a good whipped up ice cream. Not an icy one even days later. This one is advertised as having a "heavy duty motor" which may mean the difference in it not overheating.

CLEANING: Owners manual of all say to clean parts in warm soapy water, not the dishwasher.

CONCLUSION: Although the Rival Electric holds more ice cream which is perfect if you are making it for a big crowd, I have had no negative results with the Cuisinart since I ordered it while the other makers were returned to the store...and I rarely return anything. However, it's also possible I just got unlucky so if you want a large capacity and have easier access than I do to crushed ice, it might be worth a try.

For me, the Cusinart 1.5 qt is just the right size to keep the ice cream fresh for us before it's time to make another batch. For a large family, it may not work, but we nibble on it for a week then make another batch and that works great for us and since the consistency and motor where better than the Rival Gel for me this remains my pick.

After mixing up a batch of ingredients, I find that the unit came with gears locked up and motor jamed, I was able to free up the motor by loosening abot 9 screws and adjusting the gears but it would still lock up or gears not mesh after doing this twice. Returned this faulty unit

I bought this ice cream maker at Target last year, and I haven't had any of the problems that other reviewers have noted. We have used it about 5 times so far, and have not had any problem with the motor. The ice cream is very soft when it is done (45 minutes or less), but that is normal, and if you let it sit in the freezer overnight it is perfect consistency the next day. There are a lot of intstructions to follow to get everything just right, but that is true for any ice cream maker. Once you get all the steps down, the ice cream is very easy to make. Definitely worth the effort!

I see this has already received poor reviews, but mine has failed in a new way, so I figured I should add my complaints just in case anyone was still thinking about buying one of these. I bought this last summer and have made 3 successful batches of ice cream, although I found the other problems already mentioned in other reviews to be true to varying degrees. The motor didn't stop right away like it has for others, but when it eventually did, the ice cream was still very soft. The hand crank was more or less worthless because the internal gears are plastic and they slip when there is any significant resistance. On the 4th batch of ice cream, the aluminum bucket got a hole in the bottom, which caused the ice cream to get salt water mixed in it so it tasted terrible and never froze. The bucket is also starting to leak a good deal of water, although I could overlook that if not for the other problems. To summarize, I'd have been far better off buying $50 worth of very expensive ice cream.

This was the WORST product Ive ever bought. I bought it for my husband and was so excited when it came that day. We bought all the stuff for it and got everything ready and turned on the electric motor and it quit within 5 minutes. I took it off and tried it again and it wouldnt work. I was very very upset.

I purchased this icecream maker with the electric and hand crank options. While using it the second time with the electric motor it stripped out the gears. I contacted Aroma through their online customer service link and I still haven't heard back from them. Like other reviews the hand crank was very noisy so I sprayed it down with some WD40 and now it seems to be ok. If I had it to do all over again I would save my money and get a better quality icecream maker.

What a huge disappointment. I bought one of these at a local store last week and returned it. It looks good. The aluminum container is relatively heavy gauge. The motor is simply not up to the task and the manual crank is poor. The motor stopped but the ice cream was still liquid.

it's really simple to use. Compared to the traditional ice cream markers this one doesnt require ice and salt. It mixes the cream until it is stiff enough for freezing. The ice cream texture is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! very little air is blended in with the cream mixture. All in all there is just enough air that the machine allows for the smooth and creamy texture. It's truly worth the purchase. My kids and I love it!

I ordered this spare bowl to keep as a back up, for the times that we forget to put the main bowl back in the freezer. We like to keep the bowl frozen for a least 24 hours. We have tried for 6-8 hours and found that it was not enough to make the ice cream thick. So now we have two bowls, and there will always be one ready in the freezer for when we need to make a batch last minute. Great product, same exact bowl as the stock bowl that comes with the ice cream maker.

This machine is simply awesome. Worth every penny. Love the $800.00 discount and ships directly from Italy. Cleanup is easy as you need a damp rag and wash and reuse the rag. Make sure that when making Gelato, to watch after 30+minutes, or listen until the rotating blade stops due to the frozen thickness of gelato. If storing gelato, I recommend you buy plastic containers good for about 1-2 quarts. Noise is very minimal but then again, we're somewhat of a loud family.

Okay, it's expensive, but in 20-30 minutes you can make a really nice gelato or sorbet. It doesn't spin fast enough to be an ice cream maker, but this also means you get a richer, denser product. If you're like me, you'll appreciate not having so much of the volume being air.The bowl does not come out which makes cleanup a little difficult, and the dasher does not have a silicone edge. The upside is that you don't get tiny pieces of silicone in your product (what do you think is happening when it wears out?), but the downside is that you should use the spatula to scrape the bowl at least once before you finish with the automation.I've been using this unit for months though with fantastic result. Vanilla Grand Marnier Sorbet, Rum Raisin and Baily's Gelatos, all come out beautifully. I mention these in particular because I did not skimp on the alcohol, and it still froze just fine. If you can afford it, I highly recommend one.

This is a nice machine however I've had problems with it not getting cold enough. I don't know if I am low on freon (or whatever agent it uses) or if it is because I'm at 6500 feet. It has always been this way, so I suspect the later. At this altitude, the air is thinner and the heat transfer is less effective. In the summer the unit can take an hour or more to harden ice cream, often times not even freezing enough to stop the beater.In the winter, I put it outside to help the heat transfer and it takes 20-30 minutes for a batch. However, the more batches I try to make, the less efficient it becomes. Even in the winter, 2-3 batches is about the limit before you have to let it cool down for hours.I've tried to see if it can be "recharged" but haven't found any plumbing valves and have never come across anyone with maintenance expertise for this ice cream maker. There doesn't seem to be any real US point of contact for the company for support issues. If anyone else has found repair expertise for this unit - please post it for all of us!

I use this machine to churn out about 40 quarts a week and love it. I'm saving for the bigger model. I churn ice cream for 20 minutes and then freeze - great texture and flavor. Biggest secret is adding 1-3 tablespoons of alcohol to soften your ice cream. ; ) Only complaint is that the screw on the paddle sometimes gets stuck and is difficult to remove without some serious muscle. Otherwise its great! Hope this helps!

we are using this in a restaurant, and got it to replace a home machine given to us. The home machine was getting really tired! This makes ice cream and sorbet with a good consistency. It is very quiet - which is a problem in our restaurant because we don't hear it when it finishes. But that is a problem we can live with, compared to the extreme noisiness of our previous machine.
